Since the precise structure or peptide sequence of a molecule is deciphered through the set of fragment masses, the interpretation of mass spectra requires combined use of various techniques. Additionally, the biological variation in individual metabolism and the dependence of metabolism on environmental factors necessitates large sample numbers to achieve the appropriate statistical power required for meaningful biological interpretation. The 2011 LHC data featured a bump in the diphoton invariant mass spectrum, readily interpreted as a manifestation of the Higgs boson decaying to 2 photons. This tutorial mainly focuses on the interpretation of mass spectra containing multiply charged molecules generated by the electrospray ionization process. Non-targeted metabolite profiling by ultra performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) is a powerful technique to investigate&hellip. By Justine deGruyter on Jan 25, 2012 • 8:50 pm 1 Comment. In this tutorial we use peptides to demonstrate the complexity of ESI spectra. H-day -3: How to pump up the Higgs-to-gamma-gamma rate? Professor McLafferty of Cornell once wrote in his book Interpretation of Mass Spectra, “The mass spectrum shows the mass of the molecule and the masses of pieces from it. Spectra interpretation: IR, UV-VIS, mass spec and NMR. The identification of small molecules from mass spectrometry (MS) data remains a major challenge in the interpretation of MS data.
